A Change Of Seasons

"Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth
seeking the successive autumns."
- George Eliot

Summer has ended and now it is time to embrace change

The rain has already begun here

It was raining so hard I could barely see that street as I drove home from church today

School starts on Wednesday and Seminary starts again next Monday

This time I have to face it without my sister

It’s the children’s last chance to pick wildflowers, roll down hills, and dance in the sunshine, before the weather turns

Soon the trees will be colored shades of red and orange, and the leaves will begin their descent, painting their canvas below.

Mother will begin her holiday baking and the smell of the seasons will fill our home; cinnamon, vanilla, pine, and pumpkin spice

Clouds will blanket the sky, and rain will quench the parched summer touched earth. The flowers will give off their final show, and then wilt, preparing the way for next year

Corn stalks will grow, apples will fall, and pumpkins will achieve orange perfection.

Food will be harvested, and the cupboards and pantries of home will be filled, preparing for the harsh winter ahead

Its time to pull out the warm sweaters and coats, and the rain boots, splash in puddles, and make mud pies

A new blanket covers the sky, and flakes of pure white snow cover the earth. The leaves are gone now, but the fires are lit.

Christmas will arrive soon, a season all of its own, to bring more light and cheer, to a weary world.
